Mission/Purpose

The Shifting is an organization dedicated to serving women ages 18 and up in Effingham County and the surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and structured environment where women can heal, grow, and rebuild their lives. We offer a holistic mentoring program that includes adult mentorship and peer mediation. Our program is designed to encourage positive interactions, personal growth, empowerment, education, and emotional and physical well-being. Ultimately, our goal is to help at-risk women discover their purpose, value, and calling in life. The Shifting operates as an independent transitional home, where program participants live in a shared housing environment with other women for a period of 6–12 months. During this time, residents receive ongoing support to help them manage, cope with, and identify any physical, mental, or social challenges they may be experiencing upon entry. Our environment is built on compassion, respect, accountability, and community — allowing women to feel safe, supported, and encouraged as they work toward independence. We Support Women Through structure and comprehensive care, The Shifting equips women with the tools they need to: • Improve focus and life stability • Reduce anxiety and depression • Lower the risk of substance abuse • Build confidence and self-worth • Develop healthy coping and emotional-regulation skills • Create positive relationships and support systems • Connect with their identity and purpose Our program empowers women to gain emotional stability, confidence, and greater control over their lives and behaviors — preparing them for a healthy, hope-filled future.
